The fact to remember is the higher the fiber, the lower the carb count. Something to bear in mind when considering weight loss recipes.

Taking the Atkins diet as an example it focuses on eating meats, protein and good fats but does not include any fruits or vegetables at the start of the diet. This could be a problem for some people. The Atkins diet heavily encourages the use of dietary supplements, only allowing twenty carbs or less per day.

What makes The South Beach Diet easier to follow is that it allows a greater variety of foods in the early stages, including vegetables and lean meats and does not limit the carb count as much as Atkins.

Another popular low carb diet plan is The Zone which incorporates some of the same ideology of the Atkins and South Beach Diets but the stress is on maintaining the proportion of daily intake at 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. Meals are divided into 'blocks' and the basic idea is that the same foods are eaten right the way through the diet. The only difference is that more fat is added after target weight is attained to keep the dieter from losing more weight.
