Weight Loss | Are You Ready To Take The First Steps To Lose Weight?
The first step is deciding that you are going to lose weight. That may sound too obvious to put into words but it is such a major step to take. You may not have decided how much weight and how you are going to do it but the fact is you have recognised that you are carrying around too many pounds and your health will be improved by going on a diet.
OK so the decision is made, you are going to make an effort to improve your wellbeing so making the decision which diet and exercise regime to follow must come next mustn't it? Wrong! Before going headlong into any diet or strenuous exercise regime consult your doctor. He or she will be pleased that you want to take action and will check to make sure you are not putting your body under strain that it cannot cope with.
Set a target for the amount of weight you would like to use. Do not set yourself too difficult a target. Think of it as entering a high jump contest, not ever my best sport, and set the bar at a height that you are confident that you can clear. Having cleared that height you can slightly raise the bar and it does not seem totally impossible to overcome. Dieting is the same and just as in the high jump you recognise your limits do the same with your slimming target. Get to a sensible weight and maintain it, we were not meant to be stick insects. We need some fat on our bodies otherwise Mother Nature would not have provided it and, anyway, what is point of making ourselves suffer every day for the rest of our lives. Get the balance right and you will be slimmer, feel healthier and enjoy your life.
The next step is to choose your dieting regime. Try to avoid the faddy here today gone tomorrow diets that we read about in the glossy mags. Most are quick fix diets that are not sustainable long term.
A great way to reduce weight is to eat good food, definitely avoid convenience and takeaway foods, but try to reduce the size of the portions that you have. Look at a program that is proven to work and that includes ongoing support, they do exist.
Include exercise in your regime; it does not have to be military style and something that you dread having to do. If that is the case are you going to that exercise every day? Think not, why not start with a gentle twenty minute stroll each day and gradually increase the pace? You might actually enjoy it!
Overall the message is do not start off by making your diet such a big thing that mentally you stand ready for the starters gun thinking you cannot achieve your target. You can achieve your goal of a better and healthier lifestyle but remember it probably took you a long time to become the specimen that you no longer wish to be so why should you expect to reverse the process overnight?
