The Beverly Hills Fad Diet
The Beverly Hills fad diet, of course some will say it is not a fad and is just the Beverly Hills diet. But what is it?
The diet is a high carbohydrate, low protein regime in which foods must be eaten in a precise sequence and based on the principle that particular types of foods should not be consumed together. For example fruit should always be eaten by itself and carbohydrates and protein should never be eaten at the same time in order for food to be well digested and not stored as body fat.
Does it work?
Well, yes it does but medical reports say that this diet is dangerously low in daily calories and also low in proteins and many other nutrients. There is a laxative effect as a result of eating large amounts of fruit. Have you ever seen celebrities interviewed who have crash dieted by eating pineapple after every meal? The result is they cannot keep off the lavatory. Would you really like to be on a ‘diarrhoea diet’? Not recommended by the vast majority of dieticians. Just imagine what this is doing to your body and the resulting dehydration, the water loss which is probably the main reason for the weight loss.
This is a short term "quick fix" that is unbalanced. Following this diet long term is not recommended, it would be very difficult to sustain such a diet without become deficient in certain nutrients or simply putting the weight back on after the crash diet.
Just because the "celebs" use such weight loss methods does not make it the right thing to do or the best thing for our bodies. It is far better to take a good look at your lifestyle and meals and find a way to eat good wholesome food in sensible sized portions. What is the point in being a thin stick insect, bored with your diet plan and as a result more discontented with yourself and your body than when you started your diet regime?
What is the Alternative?
Instead find and join a good and well established weight-loss program. On a good weight loss diet you will learn about the nutritious foods that you can eat, diet recipes and the best portion sizes. Weight loss recipes can be tasty and fulfilling, making dieting much more acceptable. The fact that you have the support of the program and in many cases can share with others going through the same is a bonus worth having.
It is your body and in the end your decision whether you want to try a quick fix such as the Beverly Hills fad diet or a more sustainable and sensible day to day calorie controlled diet plan.
